Emilie is a “Canerican” (Canadian-American) who moved from Chicago to Vancouver in 2007. She earned a B.A. in History and Russian Area Studies from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a M.A.T.S. (Master of Arts in Theological Studies) from Claremont School of Theology in Los Angeles, California. Before she retired Emilie was a teacher and a bookseller and is an avid consumer of knowledge as well as a lover of art and music.

Emilie’s life began quietly enough in the Missouri Ozarks and then picked up speed along the way as she moved to and from several large American cities. Along the way, she earned a B.A. with a double major in History and Russian Area Studies and a M.A. in Theological Studies.
She is the mother of two grown sons, and the grandmother of three delightful grandchildren. Emilie was a secondary school teacher for most of her adult life, although she would prefer to describe herself as a lifelong learner.
She has taught a variety of subjects in several schools, including World History, AP American Government, AP Comparative Government, Economics, Art History, Comparative Religions, and Social Justice. In addition she has facilitated workshops and retreats and has enjoyed singing in community and church choirs.
In 2007, at the instigation of her very Canadian husband, Emilie moved to Vancouver and became a Canadian citizen; she now calls herself a proud “Canerican”.
As a child Emilie attended church with her Southern Baptist mother, but she converted to Eastern Orthodoxy while attending college in the 1970s. She has now found her way into the Anglican Communion, and is a happy member of St. Paul’s. Thanks be to God!
